Do you ever sit in awe of someone – and wish you could do what they are doing?
I had one of those moments when I saw Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Movie.
- How did she have almost 100,000 people totally in the palm of her hand?
- Did she have to expand her energy to embrace them all?
- How the heck do you do that?
My mind whirled with questions, wondering what it would be like to be Taylor Swift on that stage for this show.
Then it hit me…
I have more than two hours left in the presence of Taylor’s brilliance – what if I pretended this movie was actually a professional training session just for me?
- With that thought, what I saw on screen shifted.
- Coming from my professional speaker perspective combined with wannabe Pop Star Diva, I noticed different things.
Here are a few of my insights…
Taylor realizes success is not a one-person job.
- I had heard about the generous bonuses she gave her team.
- I could see the caring in the way she interacted with them on stage.
Taylor flirts with her audience – one person at a time.
- There were a few times where it felt like she was interacting just with me.
- And I could see her giving flirty looks to others.
- It didn’t feel like a canned, impersonal interaction for 100,000 people.
Taylor is rewarded for being true to herself.
- She did not pull back from creating songs showcasing very different phases of her life with drastic differences in music styles and visual presentations.
- She took a moment to thank her fans for supporting her across a variety of genres of music – rather than demanding everything sound alike.
- Taylor’s appreciation and vulnerability fueled a powerful emotional connection.
I could go on and on about my private training session with Taylor.
- I noted what she did to change costumes very quickly.
- I even tried to pretend I was Taylor for a while to see what it felt like to perform for so many fans!
- (Between us, that made my head hurt!)
Overall, my time with Taylor was very special – and gave me a ton to think about.
Makes me think of successful women raised as Good Girls…how do you consciously expand how you view what is possible for you?
