My Dad’s Influence is Still Strong

Cynthia and her dad. Thanks Dad

It’s no wonder I am the way I am.

I was a Daddy’s Girl!

My dad was a marketing genius.

  • He worked for Ford Tractor and did international marketing for them.
  • He loved what he did.
  • And decided to train me in his passion.

Dad taught me marketing as a second language.

  • As soon as I could read and write, we played a copywriting game.
  • We sent letters to corporate executives asking them for what we wanted.
  • We competed for results.

My dad coached me through identifying hot buttons for my targeted executive.

  • And very clearly asking for what I want.
  • When I was around nine years old, I got my dog food for the rest of her life.

I was SHOCKED to learn in 6th grade that other little girls didn’t play writing games with their dads, too!

My dad sparked a passion in me that is still strong today.

Last week, I attended the retreat for the Chamber’s A2Y Leadership Program – which I’m participating in this year.

We did the CliftonStrengths test and the results were a focus for the two days.

THREE of my top five strengths were in the Influencing theme!

  • Only 15% of people have even one Influencing strength in their top five strengths list.
  • Thanks, Dad!

Today is my dad’s birthday.

  • He’s been gone since 2013.
  • I still write marketing copy competing with him – in my head and heart.

Makes me think of people who want to build their confidence and networking skills…what strengths do you already have?
