2023 was challenging from an electrical perspective with six major power outages.
The first outage occurred during a bitterly cold week in February and lasted a few days.
- The house got down to 40 degrees.
- I kissed hypothermia.
- The girls (our adorable dogs) were freezing literally and had to be relocated until the power came back on.
The following week, our power went out again for a few days.
- This time, it took our backup sump pump with it.
- Our basement flooded immediately.
- We lost much of what we stored down there – including our Christmas tree and decorations.
As Thanksgiving approached, James and I started to talk about what we wanted to do for holiday decorations.
- Did we want to buy another tree and all the stuff to go on it?
- Our basement is still not put totally together due to supply chain issues.
- We have no storage capacity left in the house.
Talking through options was a downer.
- James and I both were going to miss relaxing in the front room while watching the lights dance on the tree.
- We considered a miniature Christmas tree but didn’t love what we saw.
- (Plus, it would still require storage space – and we are truly maxed out!)
All that said, I still believed there was a solution that would work for us.
- The day after Thanksgiving, I got creative in my shopping search.
- Focused on what really brought us joy – A.K.A. the dancing lights.
- Realized I had some table space in our front room that could be used year-round for something pretty.
Two days later, a miniature cherry blossom tree arrived at our house.
- The cherry blossoms have lights in them with eight color options.
- The lights dance in a variety of ways and speeds.
- So mesmerizing to watch.
Year-round relaxation for the win!
Makes me think of successful women raised as Good Girls…how focused are you on what YOU really want?
