Just Say NO!

Babe, it's okay to NOT crochet!

She was chased by a well-meaning Aunt and her crochet hook!

The attempt to initiate was activated – again.

Megan (not real name) was happy to attend her family’s Thanksgiving feast – until Aunt Mary decided it was time to initiate Megan into being an older woman.

(Megan had turned a whopping 47 earlier this year!)

Part of the tradition in Megan’s family was since the older women cooked the feast, everyone else would clean up – while the older women worked on their crochet projects.

Aunt Mary had tried to convince Megan it was time for her to join their group for the past two years.

Megan had lovingly dodged her aunt both times.

Megan was still upset about Thanksgiving when we chatted this week!

She shared how her aunt literally ran her into a corner with a new crochet hook ready to install in Megan’s hand.

Megan has no interest in crocheting – or being part of the family’s older ladies group!

She loves hanging out with her younger cousins.

PLUS Megan has exciting projects at work and a drool-worthy trip planned for the spring.

She has NO DESIRE to have anyone, including herself, think of her as an older woman!

Megan confessed she felt a little guilty for strongly declining her aunt’s attempt to welcome her into the family’s older women’s group.

AND she was dreading another conversion attempt at Christmas!

We talked through her experience and practiced an interruption strategy to use with Aunt Mary in the future.

Nobody, not even family, gets to decide if and when you want to be an older woman.

When you decide to Identify as an older woman is YOUR choice – and it’s totally okay to NOT crochet!
