A Different Kind of Celebration

I’m one of those people who is not necessarily thrilled that it’s Christmas time.

  • We don’t have family in the area.
  • We don’t want to host an event.
  • Sometimes, I grumble along with it – and, sometimes, it’s a downer.

This year, I decided to do the holidays on our terms.

  • What would be fun for us?
  • We decided to do Christmas Eve dinner at Costconi’s.

The cafe space is right across from the checkout lines.

  • We could watch people do their very last-minute shopping.
  • And stay totally relaxed since we had nothing to go to.

It felt a bit like a holiday party.

  • The staff was decked out in fun holiday gear – and in great moods.
  • Some shoppers also stopped by in their party clothes.
  • The little girls in party dresses were beyond adorable!

James and I played a game of “Why is THAT in their basket?”

  • We noticed harried women with overflowing baskets facing a long night of cooking.
  • People who didn’t want to cook – swung by for giant pies from the bakery.
  • Men who tried to make good impressions on someone (Wife? Date? Potential Mother-in-Law?) by picking up a bottle of something and a bouquet of pretty flowers.

We wrapped up our dining experience by walking around the store to stretch our legs.

  • We may have tapped into the holiday spirit as we strolled.
  • Some unexpected things made it into our basket.
  • No real surprise, this was Costco, after all.

It was a fun way to do Christmas Eve with people who made us smile.

  • James had a fortifying meal and a tasty dessert.
  • We had interesting conversations.
  • We got to be part of the holiday experience.

Makes me think of successful women raised as Good Girls…how do you do life on your terms?
