B is for Beautiful

Sunglasses with a B on the corners

Walking to my car, I was stopped by a woman.

  • She loved my sunglasses.
  • (I do too!)

She asked where I got them.

  • I shared that I got them this summer at the Atlanta Market in Georgia.
  • Her face fell a little.
  • (I think she wanted to get a pair for herself.)

She asked what the “B” stood for.

  • She couldn’t think of a designer whose name started with B.
  • It told her it stands for Beautiful.

She got a little miffed.

“No, I know it’s a designer’s name. What is it?” she demanded.

Laughing internally, I very seriously shared my experience…

  • I was shopping in the Atlanta Market.
  • I found a very cute boutique with all sorts of pretty accessories.

The collection of sunglasses caught my eye.

  • The owner was happy to help me.
  • I tried on a few pairs.
  • Most of them were fun.

The owner proudly presented this pair with big gold Bs on the sides.

I asked what the Bs stood for.

He told me, “Beautiful”

They were special glasses he could only sell to beautiful women.

I tried them on and loved how they looked.

He did too – and insisted I buy them.

I got the beautiful woman deal for them.

The woman looked at me like I was nuts, “Did you actually believe that story?”

  • “Absolutely!” I responded.
  • Grinning ear to ear I insisted, “Who am I to argue with a man that I’m not beautiful?”

She giggled and shook her head, “What a salesman.”

I responded, “I think he was an honest man with very good taste!”

We both walked off smiling.

Makes me think of successful women raised as Good Girls…how do you stand for your truth when challenged by others?
