My husband, James, and I have fun going to Trivia Night at a local bar.
- We make it a party – always inviting friends to join us.
- Dinner first.
- Followed by two games of trivia.
As enthusiastic as we are about playing trivia, that game is not the kindest to us.
- Somehow, our team often lands in the second to last place.
- Even when different (very smart) people play with us.
Last night, something magical shifted for game #2.
- Our team was totally on.
- Getting almost every question right.
- Betting to win.
As we approached the final question, we were in SECOND place – as in second from the TOP!!!
Only one point separated us from the first-place team.
The pressure was on.
- We could taste victory.
- The category was minerals.
- We did a strategic bet of 7 out of 15 possible, thinking it would help us keep our position.
The big question asked what country blue zoisite was named after.
- CRAP! We were clueless!
- Our team played with potential names – and came up with a lame guess.
- What the heck was zoisite???
The answer flashed on the screen.
- Blue zoisite was known as Tanzanite named after Tanzania.
- We got it wrong!
- We fell to the middle of the pack. Sigh.
Then, our friend and teammate, Maria said…
- “Tanzanite – that’s the stone on my new ring” – and then proceeded to show us the ring currently on her her hand!
- She talked about where the stone came from.
- And how they were overmined so therefore rather rare.
The answer, which could have sailed us to FIRST place, was sitting on her hand!
- We could have won a $10 gift card!
- And she didn’t see it until the answer was revealed on the screen!
It was shocking, funny – and frustrating all at once!
Makes me think of successful women raised as Good Girls…what answers are in front of you that you simply aren’t seeing?
