Life in the Chill Lane

Frozen Girl

Some of you asked why I didn’t think of taking Tylenol for a big fever.

  • (This refers to my last post – read it first to make sense.)
  • The answer is sort of convoluted.
  • And makes some sense when you know the rest of the story!

I had tonsillitis a lot as a kid.

  • Pretty much a monthly occurrence.
  • For several of my elementary school years.
  • (Usually on my birthday too!)

My temperatures loved to soar into the 103s and 104s.

  • My mom asked the doctor what to do.
  • He told her she could take me to the hospital.
  • Or put me in an icy bath which would simulate hospital treatment.

My mom was very literal and followed the rules.

  • When my temperature started spiking, I got put in a cold bath.
  • She added ice cubes.
  • Made me stay in until the chills might be from cold instead of temperature.

The icy baths seemed never-ending.

  • If my temperature didn’t drop enough, I had to get back in the icy bath for a second or third time.
  • Each monthly round of sickness included one or two nights in that darn tub.
  • I hated it and pleaded to not get in the tub.

My mom was committed to the treatment.

  • The doctor told her what to do.
  • She didn’t want to spend nights in the hospital each month.
  • And so I froze over and over again!

A miracle happened in sixth grade.

  • I got my tonsils removed.
  • I rarely got sick anymore.
  • And did not get back in that tub – ever again.

So when my temperature started soaring last week, I may have freaked out a bit.

  • An icy bath immediately came to mind.
  • Not that I would put myself in one.
  • (Plus we don’t have a tub I could use like that!)

Old programming can run deep – even when it doesn’t make the best sense.

Thankfully, my cousin was available to help me.

Makes me think of successful women who want to live Delicious Lives...are you aware of when you are running old programs – and have other choices?

XOXO, Cynthia
