Today I drove to Indianapolis for a speaking engagement tomorrow.
- It was about 263 miles to the hotel from where I live.
- I rented a car to make the trip.
- Easier than flying – or so I thought!
The car rental place gave me a brand new Jeep.
- Everything was automated – unlike my more classic sporty car.
- Push button to start the car.
- PLUS It wouldn’t let me speed without acknowledging I was going faster than I should!
I pulled in to buy some gas.
- I saw the arrow saying which side the gas access was on.
- Could not find the magic button to open the gas door.
- Even my old car has a magic gas button!
I looked for gas access for a solid five minutes – which felt like two, very stressful, long hours.
- I pushed all the buttons on the car dash.
- Shook the key fob.
- Practically stood on my head looking under the seat for a lever or button.
Finally, I gave up.
- Thankfully an electrician pulled into the bay next to mine.
- (I figured if anyone could figure this out it would be an electrician!)
- So I asked him for help.
The man was lovely and willing to be my hero.
- He walked over to the little gas door on the side of the car.
- Gave it a poke.
- And the darn thing sprung open!!!
I was embarrassed.
He laughed – in a kind way.
What the heck?!
- Since when do gas doors just pop open?
- I’ve always had to push or pull something near the driver’s seat.
- What an interesting twist for an almost self-driving car!
