Why Was I Supposed to Be Perfect?

Why was I supposed to be perfect?
Why is this a rarely discussed concept?

My life could have been so different!

Like many successful women raised as Good Girls, a side effect of my training was that I became an overachiever and regularly fretted over being perfect.

My mom would always say, “Just do your best.”

However, I knew the message was for my brother – not me.

  • He could get Bs and Cs for grades.
  • I was expected to be straight As.

Think about it. If imperfect people change the world, the Good Girl taboo would not be true…

  • Failing is okay – you learn powerful lessons.
  • You don’t need to do 100% – you are still valuable even if you do less than the max.
  • It’s okay to breathe – you are more than enough.

WOW.

It’s a relief to see breaking free from Good Girl Rules (and being “imperfect”) as a launchpad for changing the world!
