In the mid-70s, women finally got the right to have mortgages and credit cards in their own names.
Previously, they had to be married or have a man co-sign with them.
The Equal Opportunity Credit Act of 1974 made it possible for a woman to legally take care of herself.
The Good Girl Rules were originally designed to help girls catch a man to marry so they could survive without financial power of their own.
No longer needed the Good Girl Rules should have disappeared in a puff of stardust!
However, it took time for norms to change and the impact of the new law to be internalized.
The 1980s rolled in with fun fashion, new music on MTV – and more women attending college for a degree beyond an MRS.
Instead of disappearing as expected, the Good Girl Rules continued to be trained into girls and institutionalized for women – all the way up to today.
Theoretically, there is NO REASON (beyond habit) for women to continue to live by Good Girl Rules when they can afford their lives legally.
Those darn Good Girl Rules are so 1980s!
Are you ready to choose a different option for YOUR life?
